Disasters happen (or) Why we’re not at Metaswitch Forum 2010
If all had gone as planned, we’d be hanging out in Nashville right now, basking in the final moments of Metaswitch Forum 2010. But as is generally the case in life, all didn’t go as planned.

Earlier this month, the Gaylord Opry Resort was evacuated and all upcoming events cancelled because of massive floods in Nashville. Rivers and tributaries flooded parts of middle Tenesse after a huge storm dumped two feet of rain on the area. According to NBC News, 29 people died in Tenesse, Mississippi and Kentucky because of floods and tornados.

The moral of the story? Disasters happen. The best weapon is a good contingency plan.

Many of our customers use our solution to deploy remote working strategies so that employees continue life as usual during natural disasters or public health crises. In fact, one of our customers chose to deploy a remote strategy during the SARS crisis in Toronto and never went back.

In short: Make sure you have a business contuinity strategy. Disasters happen.

As for Metaswitch Forum 2010, it’s not going to be rescheduled for a couple of months according to the latest updates from Metaswitch. But we’ll keep you posted.
