Last month, we celebrated Thanksgiving north of the border with a list of things companies taking advantage of cloud computing can be thankful for. This week, Thanksgiving comes to the United States so it’s only fair to take another look at the things we’re thankful for, but this time we’ll put a little spin on it. Here is a list of things cloud computing will make us thankful for at some point in the future.
5 If you’re stuck in the office on Thanksgiving Day, don’t worry, you can still watch the annual football games on your thin client from the boardroom, the coffee shop around the corner, or even the 3rd floor restroom. (Some things on this list might be available sooner than others)
4. Payment Card Industry transactions are just around the corner. Startup companies and even some of the bigger players will be able to off-load their transaction worries by using secure cloud transfers. IT staff will no longer have to worry about their data centers crashing and burning during peak purchasing seasons, like Christmas and Thanksgiving. (Sorry guys, this year you’re still going to have to sleep with that Blackberry near the bed)
3. Haters gonna hate, but there will be fewer of them. Complaints that using cloud computing isn’t secure aren’t going to last as companies discover that the cloud is actually secure and much cheaper than its alternatives. Eventually, opponents to cloud computing will be lumped into the same category as people who think the moon landing was faked.
2. Thin clients are going to be so cheap that if you forget yours at home, you’ll just buy another one on the way into work. A few days ago we told you about the Ubislate tablet in India, which retails for $60. If that pricing trend continues, how long will it be until IT departments decide to invest 99% of their budget into their data center, and a couple hundred bucks into user devices.
1. Governments in North America have embraced cloud computing, saved taxpayers dollars in the process, and they’ll be continuing that trend over the next decade. When your government saves money, you save money, and that’s something to be thankful for.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
